tree/ghost/tree

This was the first intervention I started for Mourningtown. Here is the recipe:

  1. cut mimosa branches that have taken over the yard and pile them

  2. extract color from flowers, plants and soil where the house burned and the trees grew

  3. arrange the sticks into a surface to paint on

  4. cover the surface with ghost images and words

  5. let the words rest

  6. turn the surface back into sticks

  7. turn the sticks into mulch

  8. pile the mulch, and plant a tree in the pile

  9. the work belongs to the tree now. The tree turns the mulch that was sticks, the sticks that were ghosts, the ghosts that were a surface, the surface that was a tree, either back into a tree, or into a new tree. It’s not up to me how the tree sees the work.
